We are pleased to announce the upcoming international conference “Where Access Meets Belonging: Beyond Access, Towards Inclusion”, organized by Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica within the European Inclusion of Ukrainian Students (EIUS) project. The event will take place on 14–16 September 2026 at Hotel Grand Vígľaš, Slovakia, and will bring together experts, researchers, and practitioners to discuss inclusive approaches in higher education.

Focus of the panel discussion

The panel discussion aims to open an inter-institutional dialogue on the challenges, barriers, and needs in the area of inclusion of Ukrainian students into the Slovak and broader European higher education environment from the perspective of key actors at the national level.

The plenary sessions is scheduled to take place from 9:15 to 10:00.

Panel discussion participants:

JUDr. Martin Píry, PhD. 

Lecturer UMB

Researcher and lecturer at the Department of Financial and Administrative Law, Faculty of Law, Matej Bel University, specializing in green spatial development, construction law, and certain issues of administrative healthcare. He served as a member of the international expert team amicus curiae before the US Supreme Court, was a member of the disciplinary senates of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic, and advisor to the Minister of Transport of the Slovak Republic in the creation of construction law. He is the author of several commentaries on construction law regulations. At the beginning of the aggression against Ukraine, he volunteered to work with refugees at the border and in a refugee camp in Žilina.

doc. PhDr. Andrea Klimková, PhD.

Lecturer UMB, Didactician, and coordinator of teaching practice; Member of the Ethics Committee of UMB; Member of the Committee for Ethics in Science and Research at the Faculty of Arts UMB

Andrea Klimková works at the Faculty of Philosophy of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, where she teaches and conducts research in the field of systematic ethics, environmental ethics, and academic ethics. She is the author of the monograph Plurality of Values in Environmental Ethics and several studies published both domestically and abroad. Her research focuses on issues of values, the relationship between humans and nature, and questions of responsibility in the current social and political context. The topic of inclusion in its various forms is also part of a research project she is currently working on.

Mgr. Antónia Jurečková, PhD.

Head of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Trade

Antónia Jurečková, has professional experience in international relations, linguistics, and academic mobility. She studied translation and interpreting (English and German) at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, where she later obtained her PhD in general linguistics. During her studies, she completed several internships abroad, for example in Vienna, Brussels, and Munich.
She has extensive work experience in the field of international cooperation – she worked as an academic mobility coordinator at SAIA, n. o., and currently heads the Department of International Relations and Foreign Trade at the City Office in Banská Bystrica. In addition, she is involved in translation, interpreting, and lecturing. She is actively involved in international projects and cooperation with foreign partners.

Zuzana Špinderová

Capacity Building Unit International Organization for Migration

Zuzana Špinderová, part of the capacity building and training team at IOM Slovakia. Her work focuses primarily on the prevention of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and abuse, and gender-based violence. She is currently working on the REACHMIND project, which supports the inclusion and mental health of children with refugee and migrant backgrounds in school environments, including Ukrainian students aged 12-16.

During her internship at the European Commission, Zuzana focused on mobility issues, in particular the Erasmus+ program and the European Solidarity Corps. Zuzana has lived in six European countries and in her free time she enjoys reading, learning languages, photography, and traveling.
